For fans attending the 1983 VFL Grand Final on Saturday 24th September 1983 between Hawthorn and Essendon, the 8122 Up Ballarat pass was operated with 2 N sets hauled by B61 and B65. The locos pull the cars out of the carriage shed and then reverse them down no.1 road. On scheduled at 7.45am the pass departs Ballarat for Spencer Street. Hawks and Bombers fans will need to transfer to a suburban train at Spencer Street to reach the MCG.
Extra capacity will be provided for fans returning home after the game on the evening Ballarat pass.

It's become a tradition to have an operating session on the layout in the evening after the grand final running to a Saturday timetable.
