Skipton silos


On Monday 3rd October 1983, Y152 and Y151 departed Ballarat at 6:38am with a long rake of GH's for Skipton. 

Bringing up the rear of the grain extra is ZLP guards van.


A few grain extras have run this week on the Skipton branchline clearing the silos ahead of a predicted bumper 1983/84 grain harvest. These are the first trains to run to the terminus for 3 months, with most trains on the Skipton branch only running as far as the Kaolin plant at Pittong. 


The driver of Y152 is about to exchange the staff with the signalman at Ballarat C Box.

On Monday 3rd October 1983, Y152 and Y151 departed Ballarat at 6:38am with a long rake of GH's trailed by a ZLP for Skipton.  With speed restrictions in place on the line it will take over 3 hours to reach the branchline terminus and then a number of hours to load the GH's at the silos. The train is not scheduled to return to Ballarat until late afternoon.

On Wednesday 5th October, Y150 and T324 run past the Garden City Flour Mill at Ballarat North with a grain extra to Skipton.


On Wednesday 5th October, Y150 and T324 ran a grain extra to Skipton running to a later schedule departing Ballarat at 11:27am.

On Thursday 6th October 1983 T359 returns from Skipton with a rake of loaded GY's. 

The final movement occurred on Thursday 6th October 1983 when T359 ran a train with 24 GY's to Skipton. Trains won't run to the terminus again until harvesting commences in the area served by the Skipton silos in late November.
