VSBY Cattle Wagons

In 1928, twenty five bogie cattle vans were built and placed into service. Originally they were fitted with 'barframe' bogies and were fitted with auto-couplers 1933 and 1936.

Between 1965 and 1973, the wagons were fitted with roller bearing bogies and recorded to MF. In the 1979 recoding they were recoded to VSBY.  Between 1979 and 1983 only ten vehicles in the class were recoded, 2 - 5, 10, 15, 20 - 22 and 25. Those wagons not recoded had been removed from service and stored or scrapped.

VSBY is a Paul's 3D Print purchased at the Waverley exhibition. The print was cleaned up with a hobby knife and sanding. The only modifications were an internal wall between the compartments, addition of brake gear on the underframe and steps beneath the doors. The wagon is fitted with Steam Era Models bogies. Its painted Revell Matt Brick Red 37 and weathered with powders.

On the layout the VSBY with be used with the M vans and the KMQ's and KQ's loaded with cattle containers servicing the sale yards on the Ballarat Cattleyards branchline. It will also occasionally appear in cross border livestock traffic on interstate express goods trains.

The VSBY remained in service until the end of livestock traffic by V/Line in 1986.
