Loco failure at Creswick


T359-Y151-T386 depart Ballarat to rescue S305 which failed near Creswick.


Early on the morning of Friday 28th January 1984, S305 failed on a double headed block grain of 22 VHGY's near Creswick. After attempts to resolve the issue were unsuccessful, relief locos were dispatched from Ballarat. The only locos available in Ballarat were two T class from Ballarat East locomotive depot, plus Y151 relinquished from pilot duties.


T386-Y151-T359-S305-S303 run into no.4 road at Ballarat station on block grain from Dunolly.


Two hours after leaving for their rescue mission, T386-Y151-T359 hauled S305-S303 into Ballarat. Here Y151 was removed together with defective S305. W250 was used to shunt S305 in the maintenance facility at Ballarat East Locomotive Depot so repairs could be made. 

W250 pushes failed S305 to Ballarat East Locomotive Depot and into the maintenance shed so repairs can be made.


T386-T359-S303 then departed tackling the climb up Warrenheip bank. At Warrenheip T386 was detached and returned to Ballarat leaving T359-S303 to continue the run through to the Grain Elevators Board terminal in Geelong. 


T386-T359-S303 depart Ballarat for the GEB terminal at Geelong.
