In 1928, two single dome tank wagons were built at Newport Workshops for BP. They were single compartment design and had a 9000 gallon capacity. The tanks were mounted on 38ft underframes and rode on 40 ton ride control bogies.
The wagons were numbered 100 and 101 TWF and featured a distinctive large dome, unlike any other tank wagon that saw service on the Victorian Railways. I first saw one of these tanks at Albury in 1980 whilst on a family holiday to Sydney and have always wanted to model them with there distinctive dome.
The tank and underframe were left over bits from the two dome tanks that I built last year from Athearn single dome tank wagons. The left over bits of tank were joined together to get a tank of the desired length. The dome was 3D printed. Still need to source appropriate decals to finish the wagons.
