Crew training on 942


 

Australian Nationals 942 second visit to Victoria occurred on 17th October 1983 when it trailed C509 and C506 on 9130 Express Goods. It had previously visited Victoria in August 1983 as a prelude to the introduction of through running of the 930s with Xs on the Overland. 


On 17th October 1983, 942 trailed C509 and C506 on 9130 Express Goods. 942 is visiting Victoria again for further crew training ahead of through running of the class on the Overland.


This visit saw 942 based at Ararat locomotive depot for crew training in late October. It was noted sitting on one of the turntable roads at Ararat on the 26th and 29th October.


On 30th October 1983, S313 and 942 arrive at Ballarat on the 8130 Up Dimboola pass. 942 was attached at Ararat where it has been used for crew training.

On the 30th October 942 was worked to Melbourne trailing S313 on the 8130 Up Dimboola pass, where it will be used for further crew training including a planned run on a Bendigo pass.


S313 and 942 cross Lydiard Street on the Up Dimboola pass. 


Through running of 930s into Victoria is planned to commence in late November 1983 when the X/930 combination will be employed on the Overland.
