Afternoon Express



In 1983 the longest non-stop run of an intercity passenger train was 8121 pass. Departing Spencer Street at 3:50pm, 8121 pass took 2 hours and 10 minutes for the express run to Ballarat via North Geelong. 

After an express run from Spencer Street, B69 glides downhill past Ballarat East Locomotive Depot on 8121 pass. On arrival at Ballarat station B69 will run around the cars via no.2 road to form the return service (8150) to Spencer Street via the straight.


After an express run from Spencer Street, B69 glides downhill past Ballarat East Locomotive Depot on 8121 pass. T386, W250, Y151 and Y152 rest around the turntable.


B69 runs down no.1 road on the 8121 pass past T359 on a grain extra from Wycheproof in the no.3 road.



At 1800 the 8121 pass slows to a stop at Ballarat station



B69 pulls forward past the Lydiard Street gates and Ballarat B Box to clear the points.



The B then reverses down no.2 road to run around the cars at the platform.

B69 reverses down no.1 road onto the cars waiting at the south (no.1) platform.

After a crew change T359 departs with a grain extra to GEB terminal at Geelong. The crew on B69 enjoy a quick meal break.

At 6:45pm B69 departs Ballarat station on 8150 pass. At Warrenheip 8150 will take the straight via Bacchus Marsh to return to Melbourne.
