VTBY (2 dome) Cutback Bitumen tank wagons

In 1929, three two-dome rivetted tank wagons were built at Newport Workshops for the Vacuum Oil Company. Thry were designed to carry cutbavk bitumen and had a 9000 gallon capacity. The tanks were mounted on 38ft underframes and rode on 40 ton ride control bogies.

In 1937 a further 2 wagons were constructed to the same design (TW61). There were 5 wagons in this group, numbered 139, 140 and 141, and 153 and 154.

These were converted from Athearn single dome rivetted tank wagons. Two wagons were required to produce each wagon, with one underframe and two tanks being used to provide the domes.

The tanks were cut in three places, providing an end and dome section with the correct spacing of the dome from the end of the tank.  These were then reunited with the shortened underframe, new full length walkways fitted to produce the finished wagon.

I still need to source appropriate decals to finish the wagon and add some additional details such as the pipe and storage box along the side (seen in the photo of 139 VTBY.
