Stored grain wagons

T386 departs Ballarat BONA via no.2 Road for Smythesdale and Linton on Monday 5th November 1984.

As the harvest approaches, grain wagons that have been stored at various locations around the state are being returned to service.

T386 with ZMF runs past the Doveton Street sidings on its way to collect GY's stored at Smythesdale and Linton.

At 11:58am on Monday 5th November 1984, T386 with a ZMF guards van ran out to Smythesdale and Linton on the Skipton branchline to retrieve 9 stored GY's. With speed restrictions on the branch the train didn't arrived back in Ballarat to 5:36pm.

T386 rumbles through Ballarat North with A rake of GY's retrieved from storage at Linton and Smythesdale.

These wagons have actually been stored on the layout within Bunge's Garden City Flour Mill at Ballarat North. The mill includes 4 hidden sidings, as an extension of the Shell Oil siding that I use to store wagons not used regularly like ballast hoppers and bug huts. Over winter one of these hidden sidings is a temporary home for a rake of GY's.
