Feldspar for Allendale

T359 sits in Ballarat yard on a short goods to Allendale.

3rd November 1984, sees T359 in charge of a goods service to Allendale, the current terminus on the former cross country line from Creswick to Daylesford. The load includes a  VQCY, VFDA and AQBY with shipping containers loaded with Feldspar.

A plant at Allendale processes the feldspar into various grades for use in making cups, plates and bowls, and in glazes for baked enamel applied to refrigerators and stoves. On average 15 containers a month are being railed to Allendale. These wagons will be retrieve in a few days time, once the feldspar has been unloaded.

Usually the local Y class pilot is used to transfer the wagons from Ballarat to Allendale, with T class only occasionally used. The branchline to Allendale is in its final months of service, although official closure of the line won't occur until December 1986.

T359 crosses Lydiard St on a short goods to Allendale. T359 will return BONA to Ballarat later this afternoon.
