On the Western mainline through Ballarat, there is one scheduled Roadside Goods to and from Ararat a day, Train numbers 383 and 362. 383 Ballarat - Ararat Roadside Goods is scheduled to depart Ballarat each weeknight at 7pm, with the return working 362 scheduled to arrive back at Ballarat at 4:15am.
The Roadside Goods usually only consisted of a few wagons, often a couple of open wagons and a lourve van with one of Ballarat’s Y classes as motive power. When loading is light, the Ararat Roadside Goods is often combined with the Horsham Block Oil.
Tonight's Roadside Goods only consists of 3 wagons, a GY, an empty AOWY and VLCX lourve van with a ZLP guards van at the rear. The GY will be shunted off at Beaufort.
