Hot box

Defective AOWY sits in the arrival sidings in Ballarat yard.


On Saturday 26th October C503 and 934 on the 9121 Melbourne - Adelaide Express Goods were delayed when an AOWY near the rear of the train developed a hotbox. The train paused at Bungaree and Warrenheip so the crews could examined the wagon.


C503 and 934 on 9121 Express Goods sit in the no.2 road, so that a defective AOWY can be removed from the rear of the train. S308 on 8115 Down Ballarat pass sits in the no.1 road.




On arrival at Ballarat, the decision was made to remove the defective wagon. Yard pilot Y150 was used to remove the guards van and last two wagons (including the defective AOWY). The AOWY was shunted into the arrival sidings and the 8300 guards van and VOFX were then reattached to the rear of the train. The Express Goods finally departing via no. 2 road 74 minutes late at 14 54. 


Y150 couples upto the rear of 9121 Express Goods to remove the guards van and last two wagons (including the defective AOWY). 


Y150 shunts the defective AOWY into the arrival sidings.
