T331 last run before withdrawal for rebuilding into an P class was on the 8th September 1984 when it was rostered on a Dunolly - North Geelong block grain. It was subsequently worked to South Dynon attached to Geelong - Melbourne Yard Goods.
T331 is 9th flat top T class withdrawn for rebuilding into a P class for use on interurban passenger services. The locomotive will be rebuilt into a G18HB-R at the Clyde / Martin and King plant at Campbellfield,

The low cab of the Flat Top T will be replaced with a fully isolated and air-conditioned cab with improved visibility and reduced noise levels. The original EMD 8-567C engine will be replaced by an EMD 8-645E increasing horsepower from 850hp (640kW) to 1000hp (746kW). In addition the locomotive will receive an auxiliary Detroit 6V-71T diesel engine and alternator set 120KW to provide head-end power for fixed rakes of rebuilt former Harris suburban cars. The first four P class P11 - P14 have already entered service.
