Power to spare

The early morning sunlight glistens off C510 as its runs from Ballarat East Locomotive Depot to carriage shed to collect the N set that will form 8122 pass to Melbourne.

C510 was rostered on 07 45 (8122) Up Ballarat pass on Saturday 15th September 1984. The C class had arrived overnight on the 9101 Melbourne Yard - Ballarat Fast Goods and was being worked back to Melbourne.

C510 waits departure time at Ballarat station on the 8122 pass.

C510 had recently been out of service having cracks in the frame repaired. Whilst out of service it had clean and a South Dynon quick touch up to the paintwork.

C510 on the 8122 pass crosses over to the Up mainline in Ballarat yard.

C510 is the second last of the C class to have its frame repaired. Frame cracks were discovered in one of the C class in July 1983,  Detailed inspections found cracks in the frames of all other members of the class (except C507). In two C class the cracks had propagated into the body bolsters. Over the last year each member of the class has had a period out of service in the workshops having its frame repaired adding to V/Line's locomotive shortage.

Sunshine reflects off recently cleaned C510.
