Morning departures

The morning of 27th November 1984 sees A73 idling in the carriage shed sidings on the cars that will form the 8118 pass. Over in Ballarat yard W250 shunts the goods shed and weighbridge roads.

At 6:22am A73 retrieves the cars that will form the 8118 pass from the carriage shed. With further deliveries the A class, they are starting to appear more regularly on Ballarat commuter trains.

At 6:25am A73 pushes the empty cars into platform 1. 8118 is scheduled to depart in 20 minutes.


At 6:32am T321 rolls into Ballarat on the 232 Maryborough - Ballarat Roadside Goods. The train contains a single VBAY and 9 GY's. 


T321 runs past W250 on pilot duties in Ballarat yard.

A73 departs on 8118 Up Ballarat pass at 6:45am.


At 6:50am Y150 arrives back at Ballarat with the no.72 pilot from Redan. The short train includes a VLCX, AFBY, 2 x KMQ's and a VTQY. The VLCX and container wagons contain car parts from Bendix Mintex.  


Y150 will shunt the wagons into the yard and then run to carriage shed sidings to stable.



Running 5 minutes late, the Overland arrives at Ballarat at 7:10am behind back to Back X48 and 937. With no Motorail attached, the stop will be reduced to 10 minutes to recover time on the schedule. B69 sits in the carriage shed sidings with CD-AS-BRS-BS-BS which will form 8122 pass.

X48 - 937 weave their way through Ballarat yard on the Overland. while Y150 and T321 sit in the arrival and departure sidings.


With the platform now clear, B69 reverses into platform 1 with CD-AS-BRS-BS-BS which will form 8122 pass.

At 7:39am T386 and T359 roll along the no.2 road on a empty block grain of GH's from GEB terminal at North Geelong, 

T386-T359 pause at the signal gantry at Lydiard Street end of the Ballarat station for a crew change. 

At 7:45am B69 departs with the 8122 Up Ballarat pass. 

With a fresh crew, T386-T359 depart for Maryborough at 7:51am 


W250 shunts the 3 VHGY's that have been weighed on the weighbridge onto the lourve van and flour wagons that will form the no.75 Flour Mill pilot. 


At 8:02am W250 pulls forward into the arrival and departure sidings and then departs pushing the wagons to the Garden City Flour Mill at Ballarat North.


The flour mill pilot will return in around 25 minutes, then there will be a lull in traffic for a hour before the Up and Down Dimboola pass. are due.
