The building on Ararat Street with the GJ Rice and Co. Wool and Skins advertising is prominent in photos of trains departing Ballarat station in the 1970's and 1980's. I've recently added a temporary backdrop featuring this building to the layout and added the fence that runs parallel to Ararat Street and the railway lines.
The fence is made from old rail with brass wire as the handrail. Tulle fabric spray painted silver is used for the wire mesh.
The backdrop was produced in photograph editing software using part of a Warren Banfield photo. There was some reorienting of elements, plus I needed to add parts of the roof and walls of some buildings. the The cars appropriate for the era modelled are a bonus. In the longer term I plan to print the backscene on a single vinyl sheet for the area from Ballarat station to the Armstrong Street Bridge.

I still need to add the yard lights but I'm struggling to find an similar street light that could be modified. Does anyone have any suggestions?
