A class on the Vinelander

A73 slows as it crosses Lydiard Street on the Up Vinelander at 5am on 24th August 1984.

 

A class have recently commenced running on the Vinelander, replacing the usual X, B, X-T or B-T  motive power. The A class from the Up Vinelander is then used on the 1350 Down Bendigo pass (and corresponding Up service) and then on the Down Vinelander to Mildura that night. The loco is then idle in Mildura during the day before returning to Melbourne on the Up Vinelander in the evening. 

This morning A73 is in charge of the Down Vinelander slowing as it crosses Lydiard St for an on time arrival at Ballarat station at 5:00am.  


The consist of the Vinelander is part way through the transition to orange, with a consist of CD-AZ(blue)-BRS (orange)-BZ(orange)-BS(orange)-Sleeper(orange)-Sleeper(blue)-Motorail(blue).

The service will pause at Ballarat station for 15 minutes and is scheduled to arrive at Spencer Street at 7.15am.
