On the 16th July 1984, B79 was noted heading west on the 9121 Melbourne - Adelaide Express Goods behind C505. B79 had been stripped of parts and was on its way to Clyde's Rosewater plant for rebuilding from an ML2 to AAT22C-2R. B79 is the second last of the B class to be sent to South Australia for rebuilding.

By this stage, the originally planned rebuilding of all 26 B class had been abandoned in favour of adding another 15 new locomotives to the already placed order for 10 new N class. Engines and components destined for the remainder of the B class rebuilds will be used in the second batch of N class (N461- N475). The last of the B class destined for rebuilding, B81 will be dispatched to Clyde's Rosewater plant next month.

B79 on Up Albury pass (8334) departing Albury on 22/3/1984 with a consist of 1CD-8AZ-1BRS-213BS-4BE. This is run 25 in Roster N19. Runs 23 to 25 were listed as having a consist of CD-AZ-BRS-BZ-BS but variations were common, in this case a BS substituting for BZ as car C and BE(a/c) for a BS as car D. The mixed colours of this consist typical of the Z sets at this time. |
