Sunday express goods

C507-X50-S313 lead 9132 Adelaide - Melbourne Express Goods past Ballarat C Box.

On Sunday's there were only two interstate express goods on the western line between Melbourne and Serviceton, 9132 scheduled through Ballarat 9:02am and 9135 scheduled to pause at Ballarat at 4:55pm. Both interstate express goods usually featured multi units and were often used to loco balancing purposes.

Today, a dirty C507 with X50 and S313 rolled down grade past Ballarat C Box on 9132 Adelaide - Melbourne Express Goods.  The goods is running 42 minutes late due crossing delays west of Ararat.

Later that afternoon, C504 and S305 grind up grade past the Doveton Street sidings with  9135 Melbourne  - Adelaide Express Goods.

The goods had paused at Ballarat to pick up 3 empty AHGX. These hoppers had been used to delivered wheat from Western Australia to Ballarat's Garden City Flour Mill. Grain imports from interstate were required to maintain supply to Victorian flour mills as a result of the impacts of the 1982-83 drought.
