During the early 1980's Overseas Container Line (OCL) shipping containers were a common sight on intrastate and interstate goods trains within Victoria.
Overseas Containers Limited (OCL) was a container shipping company formed by a consortium of British shipping companies in 1965. By the early 1980's, OCL was Europe's largest container through transport operator with a fleet of 20 containerships and more than 60,000 container units. It served more than 50 major ports on four continents and transported more than a quarter of a million container loads of import and export cargo annually. OCL was taken over by P&O in 1986.
For these project I used old Powerline 20ft containers and a 40ft container (unknown manufacturer) purchased second hand and Infront Models OCL container decals. The containers were spray painted with Rustoleum Flat White paint. The decals were placed on the containers following the diagram included with the decals and using reference photos.
The finished 20ft and 40ft containers have been placed into open wagons and on flat wagons and will be used on goods trains on both the Serviceton and Mildura lines.
