First locomotive in V/Line colours visits Ballarat East Locomotive Depot

The first locomotive in V/Line colours to visit Ballarat East locomotive depot was T386, which arrived overnight with T401 on the 9101 Melbourne Yard - Ballarat Goods on the 6th September 1983.

T386 and T401 roll downhill through Ballarat East on 9101 Melbourne - Ballarat Fast Goods

T386 runs past the fuel point, while B81 lurks in the background.

After being turned on the turntable, T386 was positioned near the maintenance building on allowing railway staff to inspect the brightly coloured locomotive.

T386 is turned on the turntable while T401 and Y151 look on.

For the V/Line launch day only 4 locos carried the new V/Line colours and symbols, B84, Y175, L1156 and X47. Y146 was in the new colours but didn't receive VLine logos until the 23rd August. T386 ran a trial to Geelong from Newport workshops in grey in the week after the launch.  It was outshopped from Newport workshops on the 2nd September, making it the sixth locomotive to receive the new livery. Interestingly the locomotive hadn't had the staff exchanger recesses plated over. This was the only T class to be painted in V/Line colours that retained the recesses in the side of the cab.

T386-T359 depart Ballarat on a grain special to North Geelong. The train had originated from Robinvale line.

Later in the afternoon T386 was refueled at the fuelpoint before joining T359 to haul a block train of GH's to the port of Geelong. A few grain trains are running clearing the silos ahead of a predicted bumper grain harvest.

T386-T359 run past Y150 on pilot duties in Ballarat yard.
