At the workshops

The Ballarat North Railway Workshops have been busy over recent weeks releasing many wagons in the new corporate logo - V/Line. In preparation for the forecast bumper grain harvest for 1983-84 season, the workshops has been releasing grain wagons at a rate of two to three wagons a day.

Also in the shops is S car having the final stages of its refurbishment completed, VHJA Gypsum hopper, VHSY sand hopper, a P explosives van, and a VFDA flat wagon. A BE and a couple of old W workmen's sleepers are also in the workshops yard being stripped of parts before scrapping.

Today's midday workshop pilot was worked by W243, which retrieved a repainted VLCX and two repainted GH's, a GY which had grain proofing repaired, VHSY which had bogies replaced, and a HR returning empty to Jolimont Workshops.

Usually the resident W class workshops shunter places the wagons for refurbished and repaired wagons onto the Maryborough line for collection, simplifying shunting movements.

W243 reverses onto the waiting wagons and departs for Ballarat, crossing over to the Up line at Ballarat C box.
