An icy July's winters morning in Ballarat sees Y170 idling in the yard with a short goods for Pittong. Over at the station S307 sits with the 8118 pass awaiting departure time. Usually an N set, today's train is made of wooden bodied E and W cars with a CW on the front end. with a short toot of the horn Y170 departs at 6:35am on 391 goods.

At 6:45am S307 weaves it way from the down to the up line on the 8118 pass. C510 reverses in the carriage shed sidings and couples to the set of cars that will form the 8122 pass.

Running 3 minutes late S300 and S311 arrive at Ballarat at 7:08am with the Overland. The motorail wagon is uncoupled from the CO and the S's shunt the wagon onto Y150 waiting in the no.2 road. Y150 runs through Ballarat station with the motorail wagon and then shunts the wagon onto the rear of the train. Y150 then reverses through the double slip into no.4 road on its way to Ballarat yard to take up pilot duties.

With the south platform now clear. C510 pulls its cars out of the carriage sheds onto the mainline then reverses pushing the cars under the shelter of the train hall.
Meanwhile in the yard W250 shuffles GY's loaded with wheat over the weighbridge, W243 pushes the wagons retrieved from Redan into a vacant siding while Y150 shunts the freight centre loading at the goods shed.
With the last of the GY's weighed, W250 pulls the wagons for the flour mill pilot into the arrival siding. C510 departs Ballarat at 7:45am with the 8122 pass.
At 7:56am W250 departs pushing the wagons to the Garden Flour Mill at Ballarat North.
