Sunday morning at the loco

Sunday morning was usually the busiest time when the most locomotives were present at the Ballarat East locomotive depot. Gathered around the turntable are T359, X40, Y153, T401, Y170 and S307. Over at the fuel point are T342, Y150, T354 and T356. Out of view in the maintenance shed are two of the much maligned W class.

During the day each of the T's will be moved to the maintenance shed to be serviced in readiness for returning to branchlines to the north and north west either on Sunday night or on Monday.

X40 is moved onto the turntable and turned then runs to the carriage sheds to retrieve an N set that will form the morning pass to Melbourne departing 9am.

Y150 and T342 are rostered to run to Windermere to retrieve a rake of  ballast hoppers and will then run to Box Bank where they will discharge the ballast in the loop. S307 will run for 6:45am pass on Monday morning.

Usually one or two of the turntable roads will host departmental wagons, either HD vans and sand wagons, DW water tanks and well as oil and diesel tank wagons.

The turntable is a modified Walthers 90ft turntable, the maintenance shed and fuel point are scratchbuilt out of Evengreen styrene sheet and shapes. The large fuel tank is scratchbuilt from a postal tube. There's still a lot of additional details to be added when time permits.

T401 has been moved to the maintenance shed for servicing. During the day each of the T class will be rotated through the shed for routine maintenance.
