Making Gum Trees

Recently I have been trialing a different method for producing background gum trees.

For these I have used a variety of Yarrow (Achillea sp.) that's growing in our front garden. The flower heads were cut off and placed in a box to dry. The leaves were then stripped from the stems and the stem shaken to remove any loose flowers.

The heads were then sprayed with green paint. I used 2 different shades of green to get variations in the colour.

Once dry the stems and branches were painted with a mix of grey and brown water based paints purchased from Kaiser crafts. The stems were then joined together with wire that was then covered with florist tape. The trunks were then painted to match the rest of the tree.  I'm going to experiment with a few different colour greens plus the arrangement of the stems to produce different tree varieties.
