Y153 pushes a rake of wagons destined for Ballarat North railway workshops across Lydiard Street. |
The workshops pilot usually ran around 12:30 - 1:30pm when there was a lull in services on the mainlines, and the pilot was available from shunting duties in Ballarat yard.. The pilot would convey red carded wagons requiring repairs or departmental wagons transferring parts between the workshops.
Today Y153 is on the workshops pilot with 2 HR bogie transport wagons, a P explosives van and a GY open wagon. The Y will propel the wagons from Ballarat yard to the workshops (as permitted in the general instructions) and retrieved repaired and repainted wagons placed on the Maryborough line by the resident workshops shunter.
Included in the rake of wagons were two HR bogie transport wagons, a P explosives van and a GY open wagon. |
Y153 pushes the wagons through the junction of the Serviceton and Mildura lines and into the workshops. |
Y153 leaves the wagons in the workshops yard, then pulls forward onto the mainline and reverses onto the Maryborough line onto the rake of wagons. This includes to two VFLX flat wagons, a HR wheel transport wagon and VHAY soda ash hopper. Y153 couples to the wagons and then departs for Ballarat yard crossing over to the Up line at the junction.
