Bagged Flour

During the early 1980's, Bunge's Garden City Flour Mill at Ballarat North was dispatching pallets of bagged flour in lourve vans to Melbourne.

This traffic is replicated on the layout.  VLCX and VLBY lourve vans and are loaded with pallets of bagged flour from the sheds at the Macarthur Street end of the flour mill sidings. These are picked up by the afternoon pilot and taken to Ballarat yard and forwarded overnight from Ballarat on the 9170 Ballarat - Melbourne Goods to the Melbourne Freight Centre.

The pallets are transferred at the Melbourne Freight Centre to a road carrier for delivery to Bunge's warehouse at North Fitzroy for distribution to suburban bakeries.

W243 runs around a VLCX lourve van in the flour mill sidings.

Occasionally larger lourve vans such as the VLEX are used, a freshly repainted VLEX awaits loading.

A VLBY is picked up by the afternoon flour mill pilot.

The crew of Y153 contemplate there next shunting move.  Y153 is a scratchbuilt body on a proto mechanism while the VLBY is a BGB kit.
