Cattle race

Situated on Gillies Street were cattle and sheep races used to load and unload livestock for the Ballarat Cattleyards. I don't have any plans this cattle race and only one photo that partly shows a race next to the VR 20' portable building on Gillies Street. I therefore measured a ramp locally on the Foster -  Wilsons Promontory Road to get the height and the angle right for loading livestock trucks.

Gillies Street gates and 20' portable building. Note the cattle race to the left of the building partly obscured by the telegraph pole.

The race is made out of the styrene strip scraps from building the sheep and cattle races and the yards. Styrene sheet with rivets was used to produce the bracing and hinges. Old railway line is used for the frame.

This will be used unloading sheep and cattle into the yards for transferring to livestock wagons. On sale days I'll place a few livestock trucks and farmers utes near the VR portable building.

Shadows grow long as the last of the M cattle wagons are loaded with cattle at the Ballarat Cattleyards.
