A telegraph line ran along the branch to the Ballarat Cattleyards. It appears to have terminated at a standard VIctorian Railways 20ft portable situated near the Gillies Street gates. I have wanted to include this as a lineside feature along the branch.

To model the telegraph line I used old rail cut to size. The cross arm was cut from 20thou styrene sheet and the insulators were formed from pins cut to size. There only appears to be only two lines strung between the posts.
Photos that I have been able to locate of the branch show that the pole at the end of the line near Gillies Street and where the telegraph line crossed over the branch to Redan were a slightly different style. The one behind the VR portable had a longer arm, while the one at the Junction was higher, had two arms with insulators and another lower on the post. I'm unsure where the wires from the second arm went as they don't appear on the poles adjacent to the cattleyards. I'm wondering if they went into one of the small sheds situated each side of the junction. Alternatively perhaps the telegraph line branched at this point and ran towards Redan, as the prototype photo below shows a pole adjacent to the Redan line. If this is the case I'm sure how far down the Redan sidings it went as I can find any photos that show a telegraph line adjacent to these sidings.
