67 Redan Pilot

Y150 arrives at the Ballarat Cattleyards with the 67 Redan pilot.

On Wednesdays the 67 Redan pilot usually conveys livestock wagons to the Ballarat Cattleyards. Scheduled to depart Ballarat at 5:30am the pilot arrives at the cattleyards at 5:50am.

Today, Y150 is on the pilot with a short train of four wagons, M588 (one of the elephant M vans), a KMQ (with an MC cattle container), an M and a KQ (with an MC cattle container).

After arriving into the loop at the cattleyards, Y150 uncouples from the wagons and runs forward to the Gillies Street gates.

Once the point lever is thrown the Y reverses down the loop stopping after clearing the points for the siding serving the ramps.

The Y then runs forward and couples to the four wagons in the siding. This consists of an MB and 3 M vans.

The Y reverses back down the line towards Ballarat until the the wagons clear the loop points.

The points are thrown and the Y then pushes the wagons onto the KQ-M-KMQ-M in the loop. Once coupled, the Y pulls the 8 wagons down the cattle sidings until the wagons clear the points at the end of the loop.

Once the points are thrown the Y pushes the KQ-M-KMQ-M into the siding adjacent to the cattle ramp.

The KQ-M-KMQ-M are uncoupled the Y reverses down the siding towards Ballarat stopping adjacent to the shed near the junction to Redan. Once safety working procedures are completed, the Y will depart with the 3xM and MB for Ballarat.

On sale days the resident Rail Tractor is run from the Elliot Magill Maltsters Mill or the Freezer sidings to Cattle yards and is used to position the livestock wagons at the ramps for loading and unloading throughout the day.  The wagons will be picked up after the sales by the no.85 the afternoon Redan pilot.
