Y150

Y150 shuffles GH's at the weighbridge in Ballarat yard.

In 1983 Y150 was one of four Y class that were based at Ballarat for pilot workings, as well as being used on Ararat and Maryborough Roadside Goods, Pittong, Skipton and Allendale Goods.

A few weeks ago Y150 derailed and did a dive off the layout and onto the floor nose first snapping the steps off the body, breaking the front off the underframe and bending the handrails. With the damage to the underframe I had to come up with an new way of mounting the kadee and holding underframe and mechanism in the body.

Y150 is about to depart Ballarat for cattleyards with the no. 85 pilot.

I also used the opportunity to paint the handrails as Y150 had gained yellow handrails by 1983. I painted silver on areas handled regularly by loco crew and shunters and weathered them with powders to give the handrails a worn look.

Y150 is back in service on pilot duties, including a run out to the Ballarat Cattleyards this afternoon.

Y150 runs past Ballarat C Box with no.85 pilot.

The crew of Y150 are about to take the staff from the signalman at Ballarat C Box.
