Winter's Evening

 Ballarat is known for its bitterly cold winters, but tonight I decide to get rugged up and braved the icy conditions for 2 hours to record the passing parade of trains through the city.

At 6pm, S313 arrives at Ballarat after an express run via Geelong with 8121 Melbourne - Ballarat pass.

S313 detaches from the carriages and pulls forward over Lydiard Street.

S313 runs around the cars via No.2 road.

S313 runs to Ballarat East Loco to be turned on the turntable and then runs back to Ballarat station.

At 6:22pm C507 climbs out of Ballarat past the Doveton Street sidings with the 9133 Melbourne - Adelaide Express Goods.

At 6:45pm S313 departs Ballarat with 8150 Ballarat - Melbourne pass. The pass will run via Bacchus March for the return run to Spencer Street. 

W243 on Ballarat yard pilot duties shunts wagons near the good shed making up the Ballarat - Ararat Roadside Goods and the Ballarat - Melbourne Yard Through Goods.

At 7:05pm Y170 departs Ballarat on a short 383 Ballarat - Ararat Roadside Goods 

At 7:15pm, B81 arrives at Ballarat on Geelong - Horsham Block Oil Train. VFJX bulkhead flat wagons are being used as the safety wagons between loco, tanks and van.

After a crew change, B81 climbs the grade out of Ballarat.

At 7:25pm B72 arrives at Ballarat on the 8135 Melbourne - Ballarat pass. 

B72 runs around the cars at the platform then shunts the empty cars to the carriage shed for stabling. These cars with form 8118 pass tomorrow morning. B72 will run to Ballarat East Locomotive Depot to stable overnight.

At 7:35pm T356 arrives off the Maryborough line at Ballarat North with the 9196 Donald – Geelong Goods. 

At Ballarat yard, T401 and T388 have been added to the front of 9196 to assist T356 with the climb up Warrenheip bank. T401 and T388 will be detached at Warrenheip and will return light to Ballarat East Locomotive Depot.

At 7:50pm S312 arrives at Ballarat with the 8133 Melbourne - Dimboola pass.  

After a 10 minute stop, S312 departs Ballarat for Dimboola.

T359 and T381 depart Ballarat on the 9170 Ballarat - Melbourne Through Goods. The loading includes wagons from the Freight Centre and various industries around Ballarat together with kaolin from Pittong on the Skipton line.
