The Garden City Flour Mill includes a range of silos of different styles and sizes for storing grain and flour. One of the smaller storages bins feeds to a chute above the rail siding. I'm not sure what was stored in the silo or what products might have been transferred for loading into rail wagons, perhaps it was used for flour or stockfeed.
The silo with corrugated sides can be seen in the top of this photo from the 1970's. It appears that the loading chute wasn't in place at this time. |
The loading chute is made from styrene square tube. The silos are made from postal tubes or aluminum foil rolls, covered with either plain or corrugated card. The walkways are styrene sheet and florist wire for the handrails. The silos and chute were weathered with powders.
I still have a few additional details such as walkways, stairs, handrails, gutters and downpipes to add to the mill buildings, which I'll do as time permits.
