C class on the 8142 Ballarat - Melbourne pass

C class weren't common on passenger trains with their top speed of 80km/h although they did occasionally see use on the Overland and Ballarat passenger trains during the early 1980s.
At 2:20pm B61 runs past Ballarat East loco with the 8115 pass where C501 idles near the turntable with T401 and T331 for company. C501 was taken off 9149 Melbourne - Adelaide Fast Goods overnight after developing a fault on the climb out of the Bacchus Marsh up Ingliston Bank. Having been repaired by the fitters at Ballarat East locomotive depot during the morning C501 is being returned to Dynon on the 8142 pass. B61 will stay at Ballarat until 8pm when it will run the 9170 Ballarat = Melbourne Yard Goods.
B61 has left the passenger cars at platform 1, run to Ballarat East and stabled off the turntable. C501 is turned on the turntable and then runs to Ballarat station to couple to the passenger cars standing at platform 1.
C501 departs Ballarat with the 8142 pass to Spencer Street with a consist is BCE-AS-AW-BW. As the wooden bodied passenger car fleet was reduced with withdrawals during 1983-84 AE and AW cars where often used as economy cars.
At 2:55pm a VW waits at the Humffray Street gates for C501 to pass with 8142 pass to Spencer Street. C501 will be back through Ballarat that evening on a Melbourne - Adelaide Express Goods.
