Timber semaphore signal post 21 was situated at the Melbourne end of platform 1 at Ballarat Station. The top arm on Post 21 was the Down Home No.1 to Post 26, bottom is the Calling On to No. 1. Directly behind Post 21 was Post 21B. In early photos these arms and discs appear to have been mounted on the same timber post.
The post is balsawood filed to the right profile, with pieces of styrene sheet and brass wire used for the platform and other details. The lamps are two different diameter styrene tube glued together with pins used to make the caps.
The arms and lens were taken from photos and resized in Photoshop and then printed onto adhesive sheet on a lazer printer. The lenses were stuck onto clear sheet and then carefully cutout with a hobby knife, with a file used to cleanup the edges. A fine permanent marker was used to touch up the black metal surround to the lense. The signal blade was stuck to white styrene sheet.
I going to replace the plastic ladder with a brass one and weather the signal (once I have completed post 21B which was directly behind this signal). For now the signal is just resting in place.
Photo from stations past website from 1987 with the wooden semaphore signal post 21 facing camera and 21B at platform one facing away.
