Ampol (Alba) siding

South of Latrobe Street on the Redan branch was a short trailing siding that served an Ampol (Alba) fuel depot. I'm not sure when this siding was constructed if it was still operating in the 1980's but wanted to include it to increase the industries requiring shunting at Redan.
The depot isn't a replica of the Ampol depot as I couldn't find any photos of it. I did take a photo in the mid 1990's looking south east down the Redan line which shows the rear fence and gate where the rail siding entered the depot.
The white storage tanks also appear in some photos of trains at Elliot Magill Malsters Mill.
My depot has the siding branching off the Redan line in the opposite direction and situated closer to Elliot Magill Maltsters Mill and is positioned to fit between the Latrobe St and the curve of the railway as it runs out to the Elliot Magill Maltsters Mill at Redan.
Fencing is netting fabric, posts are a combination of nails with the head cut off and florist wire. Grey thread is used for the barb wires along the top of the fence. I modelled the gates from the storage depot at work.
I reduced the number and height of the storage tanks to be more in keeping with the size of the depot. The tanks are all from a Knightwing kit although I made it into two vertical tanks and a small horizontal tank and added different platforms, handrails and ladders (the kit was meant to be two large horizontal tanks). The truck loading area is based on photos that I found online, with the design including elements of truck loading areas at fuel depots at Eureka and Kooweerup.
I couldn't find any photos of discharge pipes on a Victorian Railways served fuel depot. Richard Austin responded to my question on the re modelling thr Victorian Railways Facebook page with photos of the fuel depot on his layout that I used as the basis of the design. The discharge pipes are a combination of plastic spruce from kits, with narrow bands of the joins produced from narrow drinking straws, with electrical wire used for the hoses. The value wheels are left overs from the SEM passenger car kits.
I had originally planned to add an oil drum storage shed, but there wasn't enough room within the depot. I'm still playing around with the layout of the buildings and might change the orientation of the tanks and truck loading area. I also need to add signage and add weathering (oil stains, spills etc.). From the aerial view you can see the layout of the buildings and that I have changed the direction of the siding (from that of the prototype).
