At the Elliot Magill Maltsters Mill at Redan a buffer stop was situated on the siding with the discharge pit adjacent to Williamson's Street. Although the sidings at Redan have all largely been removed a small section of track remains in this siding together with the buffer stop.
The buffer stop follows a standard VR design with round posts supporting a square beam with a coupler stop extending from the beam to the centre of the rails. it is made out of bamboo skewers for the round posts with balsawood used for the beam and coupler stop. Scap pieces of styrene were used to replicate the metal sheet applied to the beam where the buffers of goods wagons would have hit. I decided not to include the medal rods that ran from the beam to the rail with this design, as when I included them in a previous buffer stop they ended up damaging shunters steps on wagons.
On the layout the three tracks through EllElliot Magill Maltsters Mill end just behind the Mill buildings and don't continue to the Munitions sidings beyond Williamson's Street. I therefore replicated the buffer on one of the other tracks, and just used a sleeper bolted to rail on the other. There's still some long grass and ground over to add but I'm fairly happy with the result.
