Humffray Street at Ballarat East was protected by two sets of interlocked gates, over the up and down mainline tracks and the yards tracks that provided access to the goods shed and the locomotive depot at Ballarat East. The gates were controlled by two wheels situated within the Ballarat East Signal Box.
The gates are Ratio gates that I have removed the British features from including the red disk, lamp and square supporting post. I used styrene sheet with rivets cut into thin strips for the brackets and bracing and brass and florist wire for the cross rods.
The supporting posts are bamboo skewers over which styrene tube of different diameter/thicknesses has been placed. The ornamental cap and details are kids jewellery pieces that were in the scrap box. The adjoining picket fence is from Ratio. They were spray painted white and then weathered with powders.
The flashing warning light is a red grain of wheat light bulb that has been threaded through brass tube. The base of the light is a small piece of styrene tube that has been placed over the bottom of the light globe. The warming signs were produced on the computer.
As can be seen from the photos, Humffray Street finishes at the gates. this is because the locomotive depot is across the up and down mainlines where the road would have continued. On the layout I haven't modelled Ballarat East Good Shed or the disused station platform due to lack of space but I wanted to include the Humffray Street gates given their link with the Ballarat East signalbox and entry to Ballarat yard.
