Situated next to the railway gates on Lydiard Street were yellow detour signs directing drivers to use the Armstrong St bridge when the gates were closed to road traffic. Interesting these signs indicated the distance to the bridge in yards, well after Australia had changed to metric measurements. I'm not sure when they were removed but they definitely around during the 1982-83 period that I'm modelling.
I tried producing them from photos but I didn't have any at the right angle or of an appropriate resolution, so used MS Publisher selecting an appropriate font and then played around with different sizes. I've also added Beware of Trains and Stop on Red Signal signs. Fences are from Ratio (should be pointed top but I think they look ok). I still need to add the red flashing light to the tops of these poles. I still need to finish the gates for the north side of the level crossing and then the signal gantry.
X35 passes over Lydiard St while running around a Ballarat pass. The detour sign can be seen to the left of the gates. |
