I have continued working on the western end of Ballarat station at Lydiard St. I wanted to capture the key elements of the station and its dilapidated and dirty condition at the time. The platforms here have been shortened but still allow full length passenger trains to be stationery adjacent to the platform.
The platforms are made out of chipboard that has been painted a dark grey (Dulux = charcoal). The front face of the platforms have been covered with Scalescene's Random Ashlar (darkened when printed to give it a colour closer to bluestone. The Scalescenes sheet was also used to produce the platform edging. The rear face of the platform is covered with brick sheet which has been painted with Humbrol and then grey paint which has been wiped off to leave grey in the gaps between the bricks representing the mortar.
The ramp is made out of thick cardboard which has supports to get the right gradient on the ramp. The bluestone edging was produced by cutting a single row of stones from a sheet of cobble stones, painting them a dark grey base colour and then following a similar technique used to produce the mortar.
The fencing is made out of florist wire and fabric which has been spray painted silver. The lights (which are missing the lamps) are styrene tube.
To mark out the adjoining carparks I used a new technique, cutting narrow strips of white paper and gluing these down and then painting over them with modge podge to give them a protective covering.
There are still a few more details that I'll add such as platform trolleys a few more passengers. The track also needs to be ballasted through the station but I've run out of the Chucks Ballast colour that I have used and can't find any online.
