In the summer of 1982/83, Christmas Day and New Years Day fell on Saturday's so the Daylight Overland was run on the Sundays instead of the Saturday's. On these days the westbound service ran a separate service via Bacchus Marsh, as apposed to when combined with the 0755 Horsham pass on weekdays which all operated via North Geelong loop.
On Boxing Day, the westbound service departed Melbourne at 0806 and arrived in Adelaide at 1918, after stops totalling 86 minutes (many of which were waiting for the scheduled departure time), for a total running time of 10 hours 16 minutes. On Boxing Day 1982, X48 hauled the westbound Daylight Overland while X49 hauled the eastbound service.

On Sunday 2nd January, X48 was again rostered to haul the westbound Daylight Overland while B60 and B75 were hauled the eastbound service.
