Fun HO! Vehicles

Does anyone remember the Fun HO! Zinc diecast vehicles that were made in New Zealand? Recently doing a COVID cleanup in the shed I unearthed of box of old Fun HO vehicles. As these are close to right scale I decided to restore a couple for use on the layout.

Most were in poor condition having been used in the sandpit during my childhood in the 1970s, with scratches and chips in the paintwork. I first started disassembling the body from the underframe and then I stripped back the paint to bare metal. I then sprayed the body with primer before painting the body with enamel paint. I replaced the wheels with wheels donated from Matchbox cars. Here are some progress photos and a couple that I have finished.

Painted stripped from the tray of the Bedford truck, trying wheels for size.

Cab of Bedford truck painted with Humbrol enamel paints.
Digger painted awaiting wheels to be fitted.

Breakdown truck No.53, repainted a light blue with plain metal finish retained for the rear tray. I have used lettraset to add the 24hrs and the phone numbers. I intend to add a company name the front of the side of the cab and the bonnet.

E type Jaguar model no.43.  I painted this racing green and replaced the tyres with ones from the scrap box.

Bedford tanker, which I think was model no.4 Mobil tanker. I repainted the cab red with a white roof and added a bumper bar made out of styrene.  I have added a name to the cab door and in the future will probably label the tanker as a water tanker for delivering to farms affected by the drought.

Bedford tanker waits at the MacArthur St gates for a Redan Pilot to pass.
