Situated at the corner of Armstrong Street North and Ararat Street was a billboard that backed onto the railway cutting on the Ararat side of Ballarat station. On a visit to Ballarat in 2006 I photographed the sign alter multi layers of billboard paper had been stripped off the sign to reveal a painted Edinburgh Paints advertisement. This billboard is in the same style as the Edinburgh paints advertising that was worn by one of the U vans.
In Abobe Photoshop I altered the photograph to the correct scale size and removed a road sign that partly obscured the sign. The photo was then printed and pasted onto cardboard. The frame was cut out separately and pasted onto an additional layer of cardboard to produce the 3D effect. The posts are scrap rail line.
The billboard has been reversed so that it now faces the railway lines rather than the road. The VW van is about to drive over the Armstrong Street bridge that straddles the rail lines leaving Ballarat.
