On Saturday 22nd October 1983, S305 and S307 stalled whilst hauling 9121 Melbourne - Adelaide Express Goods on Ingliston Bank. C501 on the following Jet (9129) was used to assist pushing 9121 from the rear to clear the section. This produced the unusual display for Saturday late afternoon of two Down Jets in Ballarat at the same time.
S305 -S307 sit in the no.2 road with 9121 while C501 sits in the no.1 road with 9129. Scenery is yet to be completed in this section of layout. |
C501 on 9129 overtook 9121 at Ballarat.
Fitters were deployed to try and repair the defective S class in Ballarat yard.
9121 departed almost 2.5 hours late with X40 (long end leading) assisting S307. Defective S305 was shunted into the Maintenance building at Ballarat East for repairs by yard pilot Y151.
These events in a Saturday operating session were inspired by photographs from Roger Gillard in the January 1984 issue of Newsrail. These photographs capture C501 coupled to the rear of 9121 assisting S305-S307 up Ingliston bank to Box Bank loop.
