I wanted to replicate a scene from this photo by Allan Greenhill on Flickr of B79 hauling a passenger train through Ballarat East of red wooden and blue steel cars. Beside the line is a family group playing a game of backyard cricket.
I couldn't find any off the shelf people that had the right mix and poses to replicate the scene, so I chose to modify people that I had. This involve some surgery with a hobby knife, repositioning arms, legs and heads to reflect batting and fielding cricketers. The cricket bats were made from scraps of plastic and brass wire. Steel rubbish bins are used for the stumps.
I have fond memories of games of backyard cricket, particularly at family gatherings such as Christmas when aunties, uncles and grandparents were roped in to make up the numbers in the field. I have tried to replicate this using a mix of male and female cricketers.
