35 years ago on Sunday 21st August 1983, the State Transport Authority's new corporate image, V/Line was launched at Spencer Street station.
On the day of the unveiling B84, X47, Y175 and L1156 all carried the new V/Line colours and logos. In the following days both Y146 and T386 received the new corporate image.
Free train rides were offered with orange B84 hauling an N set 17 (4BN,49BRN,51ACN) and refurbished and Z and S cars (7AZ, 7BS, 10BRS) displaying the new V/Line logo. The event was described in the December 1983 issue of V/Line News.
The first working of a locomotive in V/Line colours through Ballarat occurred the following day, when X47 hauling a N set passed through on the 8133 Dimboola pass.
Over subsequent weeks and months refurbished S cars and goods wagons began to emerge from Ballarat North workshops with the V/line logo. The new corporate image was also applied to trucks, shipping containers and station signage. Reflecting the launch of the new corporate image, the layout includes a small number of locomotives and wagons in the new V/line colours mixing with those in the Tea-cup and the old VR blue and gold schemes.
